Proverbs 7

READ CHAPTER 7 OF PROVERBS ON YOUR OWN,
OR FOLLOW THE LINK HERETO READ IT ONLINE!

PASSAGE TO MEMORIZE THIS WEEK
There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him:
Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil,
false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.
PROVERBS 6:16-19

I have a Standard full colored Bible KJV that I'm using for this Bible study.  Proverbs chapter 7:1-4 starts being highlighted in orange which stands for discipleship.  Here are some subjects that it covers.

Discipleship- Obedience; praise; service; worship; spiritual; formation; commitment; fellowship; spiritual gifts; fruit.

Verses 5-27 are highlighted in yellow which stands for family.

Family- genealogies; marriage; sexual concerns; children; parenthood; home; adultery; fornication; divorce; friendships; relationships.

Sadly, this chapter is warning us against sexual immorality.  However ,it also teaches us to hold on to the Word of God.

So lets dive in please read with me verses 1-4.
1 My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.
2 Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.
3 Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.
4 Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister and call understanding thy kinswoman.

In verse 2, Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.  Do you know what it means to be the apple of your eye?  It means you cherish it above all others or above anything else.  So here in this verse, he's saying know my commandments.  Where are His commandments?  In the Word of God.  Know the Bible, do what it says, and live it.  Follow what it says, and cherish it above anything else.

Verse 3 says, Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.
Have you ever done that?  Have you ever tied a piece of string around you finger to remind you of something that you need to do?  Well, that's what the Lord wants us to do with His Word.  He wants us to not only read it, but remember what it says all the time.   He also wants us to write it on our hearts so that it can be with us everywhere we go and never be forgotten.

Verse 4, Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; call understanding thy kinswoman.  A sister or brother is someone you love, someone you are very close to, and a kinswoman is someone that is a relative or someone you have a close connection with.  You should love wisdom and keep it close to you.  The same thing with understanding.  You should keep a close connection and strive for understanding.

Verse 5 is getting us ready for the story to come and tells us why we should follow the instructions that were just given to us in verses 1-4.

Verse 5 That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.  May I add that this could be male or female.  My Pastor has said it in the past - a man or a woman can have a Jezebel spirit.

Now I would like you to read verse 6-9 on your own :)

Verses 10-11 - I would like you to grab a piece of paper which should not be hard because you have been taking notes the whole time right? LOL

Read verses 10-11 and write down the attributes of this woman.  What does the Bible say about her? How does she dress? How does she act?  Go.
W
hat did you come up with? Here are some of mine.
*She had the attire of an harlot.
*Subtil of heart. (sly of heart)
*She is loud
*She is stubborn
*And last, but not least, her feet abide not in her house.

If when looking at this list you find that you fall under some of these traits, that's ok.  No one is perfect.  I know I'm not, but you and I can pray to be delivered from all of these traits.  In fact, this week I will be praying against these traits for all of the woman and men who will be reading this blog.  You can join me and pray also.

Lets move on and read verses 12-23.  Sad story isn't it?

Now lets finish our chapter and see what other wisdom we can receive from this chapter.  Read along with me chapter 24-27.
24 Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.
25 Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.
26 For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.
27 Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.

Well, the Bible right there tells you where all of those actions take you.
Don't let this world or the people living in it lead you towards hell and self destruction.  The way to heaven through Jesus Christ is not just open to certain people, it is open to everyone that believes in Him.

Guard your heart.
Know the Word of God
Read the Word of God
and Live the Word of God!

Now lets start living like we are saved!

  1. "A young man devoid of UNDERSTANDING, passing along the street near her corner.....in the black and dark of night" V.7-9 There's that word 'understanding' again. If we lack it we will be open to the schemes of the enemy. He's lurking in the corner and the dark of night waiting for our defenses to be down. Be sober....Be VIGILANT!!! As this journey continues my eyes are being opened to just how important wisdom and understanding truly are. None of us are above falling into the snare of the enemy when our life isn't filled with the Word and prayer. I love the last bit of today's study: Guard your heart; Know the Word; Read the Word; Live the Word. Love you Melissa!!

  2. When I was reading chapter 7, I got stuck at verse 26. "For she has cast down many wounded, and ALL who were SLAIN by her were STRONG MEN." These men did not know that wondering towards this woman in thought and/or deed was going to cost them their life. They were like an ox going to slaughter. WOMEN, WE MUST STAY CLOSE TO OUR HUSBANDS! There are women, in the church, at the workplace, everywhere, who are like the adulterous woman described here in Proverbs 7. We must love our spouses loyally, make intimacy and communication priority, and pray FERVENTLY for our husbands to have wisdom and protection. Even Solomon, who was considered the wisest man, was lead astray by the seduction of women. I loved how Melissa asked us to write down the traits of this woman so that we could pray for deliverance from them for ourselves and for other believers! May we heed the warnings of Proverbs - Guard our hearts, Read & Know His Word, and then live it out! Great word, Melissa!!!!!
