 VERSE TO MEMORIZE THIS WEEK

The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord,
Like the rivers of water;
He turns it wherever He wishes.

 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes,
But the Lord weighs the hearts.
 To do righteousness and justice
Is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
Proverbs 21:1-3 (NKJV)

“When you sit down to eat with a ruler, observe carefully what is before you, and put a knife to your throat if you are given to appetite. Do not desire his delicacies for they are deceptive food. Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist. When your eyes light on it, it is gone, flying like an eagle towards heaven.” Proverbs 23:1-5
“Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the fear of the Lord all the day. Surely there is future and your hope will not be cut off.”  Proverbs 23: 17-18

How many times do we look around and lust after earthly wealth and think that if we could just have THAT, our lives would be complete? I’m guilty of it. I think that if I could just have a nice house or a decent car or a good job, my life would be complete but it’s just not true.
I believe that we are to have a kingdom mindset. When I openly envy unbelievers, it is a witness to them that I am not satisfied in Christ and that I don’t believe that He will provide according to His riches in heaven. If our minds are set on heavenly things, we become unconcerned with earthly treasures.
Like Francis Chan says in the video above, so many people worry about having a comfortable and wealthy life on earth, without realizing that we still have eternity. We have got a few short years here, and our commission is not to be wealthy (although wealth is not necessarily a bad things) but it is to make disciples of ALL nations. If we are showing unbelievers that we are not satisfied in Christ and that we don’t ACTUALLY trust Him, we just say we do… Is that going to make disciples? Probably not.
Let’s trust that we will have everything we need for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven and let His providence build our faith and our testimony so that we might use it to make disciples of all nations!!

  1. Verse 17 in the NKJV is written this way, "Do not let your heart envy sinners, But be zealous for the fear of the Lord all the day." Be ZEALOUS in the way you respect and revere and "go after" the Lord in your heart. Be passionate! Be sold out!
    I loved reading your commentary, Nicole. Your cousin Tera is very proud of the young woman of God you have become and are still becoming with every new day.

  2. So much wisdom! If we could all grasp the fact that this life is so temporary! And eternity is ETERNITY! We should work for what really matters!
