 VERSE TO MEMORIZE THIS WEEK

The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord,
Like the rivers of water;
He turns it wherever He wishes.

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes,
But the Lord weighs the hearts.

 To do righteousness and justice
Is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.

Proverbs 21:1-3 (NKJV)

The book of Proverbs tells us how to order one's values, which leads to character, which leads to wholeness, which leads to satisfaction.  It warns of the pitfalls along the way, and declares the dangers of not developing the fear of The Lord.

Chapter 24:10 is the verse that really stood out to me....

"If thou faint in the day of adversity,
thy strength is small."

Terrible things can and do happen - even to good people.  The key is not to be victimized.
Mourn your loss, and then move on!  Do not stay in that defeated place.

Adversity, difficulties, or even calamitous events catch up with most of us at some point in our lives.  Life's problems are things that happen to others, but never us, because we're good people....right?

Things happen in our lives that can cause devastation and bitterness. We can become so bitter that we find it hard to be thankful for anything.  The clock won't stop ticking, and our lives are wasting away, while we wonder why did this happen to me.

Our question is not why did it happen, but how can I overcome it, and move on.
Stepping up to life's challenges is a choice.  It is not something others just do because they are stronger.  It is possible for all of us.  Don't faint in your adversities, be an overcomer, and find your strength in The Lord.

Your strength, our strength, does not have to be small!!!

  1. A good word! The day of adversity comes to all of us. "...the joy of the Lord is your strength." Nehemiah 8:10

  2. I picked out the same scripture today before reading this. Such a powerful word. The rain falls on the just and the unjust. We can stand in a place of defeat or realize just how big our God really is, just how much He really loves us and just how much He really has on the other side of our storm!

  3. I loved your introductory paragraph. You summed up Proverbs beautifully! Verses 3-4 really popped out at me. We need to follow the Lord's advice on receiving true, valuable riches. We will receive "precious and pleasant riches" when we build our houses with wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. Wealth is not the main thing, Godly wisdom is. Now who wouldn't want some pleasantness in their life? What a nice word:)
